Hadiths About Hazrat Ali (RA)

The Consequences of Lying Against the Prophet (SAW)

English

Narrated by Hazrat Ali (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, “Do not lie against me, for whoever tells a lie against me (intentionally) will surely enter the Hell-fire.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 106)

Key Discussion

This Hadith highlights the seriousness of lying, especially when attributing something false to the Prophet (SAW). The consequence is severe — entry into Hellfire. In today’s world, we must be mindful of our words, ensuring that we never falsely attribute sayings to the Prophet, as doing so can mislead others. Always verify Islamic knowledge and avoid spreading false information.

Ablution for Urethral Discharge

English

Narrated by Hazrat Ali (RA): “I used to experience frequent urethral discharge and felt shy to ask Allah’s Messenger (SAW) about it. So I requested Al-Miqdad to ask the Prophet. The Prophet replied, ‘Perform ablution after it.'” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 134)

Key Discussion

This Hadith addresses a common issue faced by many and provides clear guidance: ablution (wudu) is necessary after experiencing urethral discharge. This demonstrates the Prophet’s (SAW) practical approach to cleanliness and personal hygiene in Islam. Ablution ensures spiritual and physical purity, which is essential for performing prayers.

Fate and Divine Decree

English

Narrated by Hazrat Ali (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, “There is none among you but has a place either in Paradise or Hell assigned for him, and it is also determined whether he will be among the blessed or wretched.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 444)

Key Discussion

This Hadith emphasizes the concept of fate (Qadr) in Islam, where everything, including our final abode, is predetermined by Allah. However, this does not mean we should give up on good deeds. As the Prophet (SAW) clarified, good deeds are made easy for those destined for Paradise. It is important to continue striving for righteousness while trusting Allah’s plan.

Charity in Pilgrimage

English

Narrated by Hazrat Ali (RA): “The Prophet (SAW) ordered me to distribute the meat, skins, and covering sheets of the Hadi camels (slaughtered for sacrifice) in charity.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 775)

Key Discussion

This Hadith sheds light on the importance of charity during Hajj. Hazrat Ali (RA) was instructed to distribute the sacrificial meat and other items in charity. This highlights how Islam encourages helping others, especially during significant acts of worship. It serves as a reminder that charity is an integral part of the Islamic faith and practice, promoting unity and care within the Muslim community.

Sanctity of Medina

English

Narrated by Hazrat Ali (RA) “We have nothing except the Book of Allah and this written paper from the Prophet (SAW) which says: ‘Medina is a sanctuary… and whoever commits a sin or innovates in it will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.'” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 94)

Key Discussion

This Hadith stresses the sanctity of Medina, a place blessed and protected by Allah. It highlights the consequences of committing sins or innovations in the sacred city. The lesson here is to respect the sanctity of holy places and adhere to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, avoiding innovations that can lead to misguidance.

Virtue of Giving

English

Narrated by Hazrat Ali (RA): “The Prophet (SAW) gave me a silken dress as a gift. When I saw signs of anger on his face, I cut it into pieces and distributed it among my wives.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 796)

Key Discussion

This Hadith shows the humility and obedience of Hazrat Ali (RA) when he saw that the Prophet (SAW) disapproved of the silk garment. Instead of wearing it, he chose to share it with his wives. This act teaches us about the virtue of giving and the importance of adhering to the teachings of the Prophet (SAW), even in seemingly small matters.
